Forming part of the impressive Bourne Hall, this property is arranged over three floors and provides a fantastic living space. Bourne Hall was the former Wesleyan Church, which was refurbished in 2013 to offer three bespoke homes.
The house is accessed from Courthouse Street with a gorgeous red brick front façade with period detailing. As you enter the property you are immediately hit with the wow factor as you stand on the glass mezzanine floor and take it all in.
As you enter, the spacious mezzanine living area flows around into the library, with frameless glass balustrade's creating an open view to the lower ground. There is also access to a private sun terrace on this level and a cloakroom.
A bespoke designed turning staircase leads to the lower ground level where you find a large reception area with concealed storage space. The reception area leads to the kitchen/dining room. The kitchen is fully fitted with modern units and central island and is open plan with the dining area. The glass and original picture window above make this a space with natural light pouring in.
The first floor also extends from the bespoke designed turning staircase. Here you will find a master bedroom with a contemporary fitted en-suite shower room and doors leading to a wonderful roof terrace facing the sea and providing views across the Hastings Old Town. Bedroom two is another spacious room and has its own access to a private sun terrace. Bedroom three also has access onto the roof terrace. The family bathroom once again is fitted in a contemporary style in keeping with this truly stunning house. There is also a the small side terrace close to the front door with the bamboo borders and is also an ideal area for storage
The entire house has been finished to an exceptional standard and viewing is highly recommended.
Located in one of Hastings most desirable and sought after residential enclaves the property is in the heart of the Historic Old Town Hastings. The house is perfectly placed within moments of the beach and five minute walk to the country park with miles of scenic walks through woods, meadows and the cliffs. Hastings town is close by and Artist open houses run through the spring months, along with summer fairs, street parties and almost weekly festivals.
Looking for an evening out? The Electric Cinema in Old Town is great as is Kino-Teatr, which houses an independent cinema, theatre, the Baker-Mamonova Gallery, bar and a Lebanese restaurant. It rubs shoulders with great local wine bars and award-winning pubs and restaurants (try The Crown, Penbuckles, Judges, Queens Deli, The Wine Shed, The St Leonard, Dragon Bar and St Clements). Excellent local shops in Old Town with a variety of independent retailers. Close by in St Leonards there are many places specialising in vintage furniture/lighting and clothing on Kings Road and Norman Road. Superb cafés like Fika and Sea Kale serve great drinks and food, using locally sourced ingredients, including fish caught that day from the fishing beach and prize-winning world-class wines from the many vineyards nearby.
Hastings railway station is close by with direct links to London Charing Cross and Victoria (1hr, 30 mins) and Brighton (accessible within 50 mins), perfect for commuters.
Hastings has the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe, known as the Stade. The ruins of the castle built by William the Conqueror lie at the top of West Hill and offer wonderful views of the area and Channel. The steepest funicular railway in Britain takes passengers from the Old Town up to the castle. At the top of the East Hill funicular, situated near the fishing beach, is the Country Park, one of Hastings and St Leonards' many fine green spaces.
Opened in March 2012, the award-winning Jerwood Gallery sits next to the fishing beach in Hastings' historic Old Town. Home to a revolving selection of the Jerwood Collection's twentieth- and twenty-first century art, it also holds several major exhibitions a year, showcasing the best of modern art: recently Picasso's work from Lee Miller's nearby Farley Farm House and celebrated figurative artist Paula Rego's first major British exhibition in ten years were shown there. The Coastal Cultural Trail, which you can walk or bike, links the Jerwood to two acclaimed galleries, Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion and Eastbourne's Towner Art Gallery.
There are many other attractions in Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea, both architectural and cultural. The fantastic Hastings Pier (recently named Pier of the Year and winner of the highly prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize) hosts numerous live gigs and shows; it is an iconic place to visit, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Clash having played there. The town also hosts the Hastings Half Marathon, the Jack in the Green Festival, Hastings Beer Festival, Coastal Currents, the Old Town Carnival and three seafood festivals. This year it launches its first literary festival. All are within walking distance of the property.
A vibrant place to live, Hastings has lovely architecture, historical and cultural resonance and a beautiful open coastline.
